How to configure LACP on Juniper Switch EX3300-24P with Synology NAS

How to configure LACP on Juniper Switch EX3300-24P with Synology NAS

  1. On the physical Synology NAS make sure both LAN ports are connected to your switch, in my case these are ports 18/19 on the Juniper switch.
  2. SSH into your Juniper Switch
  3. Check if you have any AE (Aggregated Ethernet) interfaces available.
    • run show config
    • look for interfaces that start with “ae“
  4. In this example I am going to be using interface ae1
  5. Enter into “edit” mode
  6. If you do not see any ae interfaces, then run the following (this will create 2)
set chassis aggregated-devices ethernet device-count 2
  1. The commands below will setup LACP/LAG on ports 18 and 19 and bond them to logical interface ae1 and sets the link speed to 1GB. I also set the periodic to slow as this is the default value in Cisco, but this may not be necessary.
set interfaces ae1 aggregated-ether-options lacp active
set interfaces ae1 unit 0 family ethernet-switching port-mode trunk
set interfaces ae1 unit 0 family ethernet-switching vlan members vlan10
set interfaces ae1 unit 0 family ethernet-switching vlan native-vlan-id default
set interfaces ae1 aggregated-ether-options link-speed 1g
set interfaces ae1 aggregated-ether-options lacp periodic slow
set interfaces ge-0/0/18 ether-options 802.3ad ae1
set interfaces ge-0/0/19 ether-options 802.3ad ae1

  1. Open up the Synology DSM Manager
    • (WARNING: You must setup the Switch side first)
    • Go to Control Panel > Network > Network Interface. Click Create > Create Bond.
    • Select “IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation” click next.
    • Select both interfaces click next.
    • On the Network Setup screen, I set your network configuration settings. In my case I left DHCP since I use network reservations in my environment.
    • Click on Apply.
    • Click “Save“
  2. If you did everything correctly you should see Network Status of 2000Mbps under the Bond connection.
